In light of what is presently happenning in Japan, I went on a search to find out if there is a campaign against so called "clean nuclear energy" ....Since my move to the province in 1998, I have always worried about the Lepreau site and its possible effects on the vecinity population (and nature) I would even sign a petition to ban it totally! -- It did not surprise me to find Larry and Lee Ann behind the scene informing us of the possible terrible outcome....Bravo to you both....I believe you deserve some kind of award!!!!!

To Whom It May Concern

Star columnist Chantal Hebert observed that the proposed sale of NB Power to Hydro-Quebec was the most unreported story of 2009. I have been working with a face book group whose original creator notified seven friends of the “deal” to sell New Brunswick’s crown asset on October 29. That group creator had 10,000 friends 10 days later.

We are now nearly 30,000 and a partner in the large Coalition of New Brunswickers: NB Power Not for Sale, which includes in excess of some 30 groups. Estimates of public opinion show more than 80 percent of the citizens of the province are not in favour of the sale of the crown asset, or any portion of it, unless (and until) there is a government in place with policies respecting economics, environment, energy and electoral reform.

We feel we are being run by a “Shadow Government,” and we have asked Corporate Watch and Democracy Watch to pay close attention -- particularly on the involvement of the infamous “public relations” firm Hill & Knowlton.

As you are no doubt aware, the government revised its “deal,” and has moved forward the closing date from March 31 to not later than May 21. We will now be subject to an expensive public relations program for two and a half months in a pretence to consult and inform the public, which has been targeted by proponents of the sale and some media as: emotional, silly, ignorant, bigoted, racist and suspected of intending violence.

One of our greatest obstacles is the monopoly media environment we have inherited in this province.

For background information please have a look at the Coalition website,

This is a kind of mutual aid call. People here could bolster our weary campaigners at the No to Sale of NB Power face book site resisting the take over of NB Power by Hydro-Quebec, where there is a campaign to resist a second nuclear generator in the province of Quebec
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=176387183904
We are working against a "deal" closing date of March 31. While a discussion over there on the merits of nuclear would be "off message," we could use any strategic support in numbers or volunteer work toward a major rally in Fredericton on March 20. If you are not yet on face book, you can learn more from either of two websites:

The recent disaster in Haiti is a sign that activity is happening at a grand scale in the earth's crust. Pointe Lepreau being located near two important fault lines could be shaken up in the near future by an earthquake as big or bigger than the one that hit the area in 1929. NB Power was to pass on the nuclear plant to Quebec with what I would call a "vice caché". Geologists have been warning the NB Government since the mid 70s about this to no avail. The coming earthquake will render that plant useless and dangerous and taxpayers of both Quebec and New Brunswick will stand to loose - not to mention the health and environmental impacts to the people of south western New Brunswick.
