Uranium drilling a concern for many

I understand Natural Resources Minister Donald Arseneault to say health risks would occur after exposure of “500 hours,” a mere 21 days, of being within five feet of a drill sample with just one per cent of uranium.

Surely this is a cause for grave concern?

Additionally, it is hard to believe that a massive “20,000 claims” are mostly near the small local service district of Hoyt and Moncton.

I can’t help but wonder if this is no more than a diversionary tactic in an attempt to divert the more vociferous locally, voices such as are currently and justifiably being heard in nearby Harvey.

We should be informed of the location of all staking and exploratory drilling holes, with well water tested before and after any such exploration, especially on or near subdivisions, such as Hanwell, now staked.

I understand that not all homeowners have even received notification that their land is staked.

The inevitable reduction in property values, as a result of any exploratory drilling, staking or mining, should also be reflected in New Brunswick’s property taxes.
