It’s with great frustration that I once again see our illustrious Natural Resource Minister Donald Arseneault basically calling the people of New Brunswick a bunch of morons.
He says he hopes the most recently planned meetings will put an end to the fears the public has about uranium mining.
I doubt it will because we are not morons.
We will not be swayed by lies and half truths from a bunch of mining company executives and PR spin doctors with nothing but dollar signs in their eyes telling the public what they want to hear instead of the whole truth.
We already know that we cannot trust our own government to tell us the truth, so do you actually think the truth is going to come from the mining companies? They do not care about our health, make no doubt about that. Our own Natural Resources minister said, “the province rejected a moratorium on uranium mining due to the economic benefits this will bring to the province.”
What more can be said? We all know where the priorities are.
I would love to know who this silent majority is that supports uranium mining. Besides the one letter from some doctor in Bathurst, I have not seen one letter that supports this plan.
So I’d like to know, besides a mining company and a government that just doesn’t care, who else is in this silent majority?
It is certainly no one writing to this paper and certainly not this paper itself.
I know it is not my neighbours, not my co-workers not my friends or my family and anyone who I randomly speak to anywhere that supports this.
The term “silent majority” is a very convenient phrase and a pretty insulting one at that. But then again, that is all we are getting from our government . . . insults.
According to our government we are already an illiterate bunch of twits, aren’t we? We might as well add uninformed and fear mongers to that.
There are many websites out there that will give you the unbiased, scientific and proven facts on uranium mining and the thousands of reasons it should be banned.
I guarantee that you will not get these types of unbiased opinions from our minister or our own government. You most certainly will not get it from the mining companies.
Think about this for a second. Our own government will not ban this dangerous mining, around our watershed that is used for over 100,000 people, because of the economic benefits. The province of Nova Scotia had the foresight to see this dangerous mining practice for what it really is over 20 years ago and banned it.
But not here in New Brunswick.
It makes me laugh, “Be . . . in this place.” What a total and utter farce. No wonder people drive right through. Too bad, as the people of this province are the best you will find anywhere, but our government is an absolute joke.
The entire population of New Brunswick should be outraged. If our government actually worked in the real world, like we the taxpayers, they would have all been terminated years ago.
Shawn Graham, you’re fired! Clean out your desk by 5 p.m. That is how it would work in an actual job, not this fantasy land the government has created for itself.
In the real world you don’t get to give yourself, emphasis on give yourself, hefty raises and just rubber stamp them. Raises, by the way, which were not earned.
So how about giving those unearned and unwarranted raises back? That would be economically beneficial for the province.
But in reality it’s like we are living in the bizarro world . . . I’m sure that next people will be wearing hats on their feet and hamburgers will be eating us.
